Website vs Facebook — Which One Matters More?

April 1, 20266 min read

"Why do I need a website? I have Facebook." — that's one of the most common things we hear from small business owners. And we get it. Facebook is free, easy to use, and everyone's on it. But relying solely on Facebook is like building a house on someone else's land.

Facebook Doesn't Belong to You

This is the most important point. Facebook can change its algorithm and cut the reach of your posts by 80% overnight. It can block your account without a clear reason. It can shut down a feature your marketing depends on. And you have zero control over it. Your website is your property. No one can shut it off, change the rules, or cut your reach.

Google Doesn't Index Your Facebook Posts

When someone types "plumber Warsaw" into Google, your Facebook post doesn't show up. Websites do. Without a website, you're invisible to everyone searching for services in a search engine — and that's the largest group of potential customers.

A Website Builds Credibility

Think like your customer. They're looking for a carpenter. They find two businesses: one has a professional website with photos of completed work, pricing, and reviews. The other just has a Facebook page with the last post from 4 months ago. Who would you trust more?

So — Website or Facebook?

The answer: both, but your website is the foundation. Facebook is great for building relationships, showing daily work, and staying in touch with customers. But your website is your command center — that's where a customer checks who you are, what you offer, and how to get in touch.

  • Facebook: free, but you have no control over reach and algorithm
  • Website: your property, visible on Google, builds credibility
  • Best results come from combining both — website as your base, Facebook as support

Don't quit Facebook — but don't make your entire business depend on it. A website is the only place on the internet that truly belongs to you.
